2010 New Haunt Reviews: Kings Dominion & Canada's Wonderland

Photo from UltimateHaunt.com

Canada's Wonderland has premiered a star-studded lineup of Haunts in the past few years. This year was no exception. Blood Bayou took the place of Miner's Revenge in the Whiter Water Canyon area, and had nothing but positive reviews. Here's a review from a trip report that was found on ThemeParkReview.com.
"First up was Blood on the Bayou, this was our brand new maze, and it was just awesome. As the name suggests, this maze is based on the Louisiana Bayou, and actually has you walk through the swampy area, along with a few houses with rooms dealing with Voodoo magic. The entrance to the maze is in somebody's home and has some usual haunted house scares, but then you walk out the backyard and onto a boardwalk with loose boards that actually sink down when you step on them. As you continue, the fog gets thicker until you go into the actual swampy area. It is very foggy in here, but that it what makes it work. If you look down, you can see the surface of the bayou's water, along with some islands popping up here and there. In the distance you can make out trees through the fog, it actually looks (and smells!) like a real swamp. As you continue down the boardwalk, weird slimy looking scareactors appear in the fog and jump towards you. You pass through a creepy looking gazebo thing, continue on for a bit then the path turns into a back porch. You enter the house attached to it, and find a room filled with voodoo things, scareactors shaking weird things, and has what looks like dried bodies hanging from the ceiling. You exit this house and go back through the swamp, passing a tree with a bunch of bodies and skeletons hanging from it, then continue through the swamp. The rest of the maze is similar to the first part, passing through a house and the swamp, by the end the swamp is very foggy, and the lights do a great job of showing the trees through the fog. Definitely my favourite maze I've seen at Wonderland."

Sounds like a fantastic addition! We can't wait to see what happens next year with Canada's Wonderland. Whatever they add we're sure it won't disappoint.

The Doll Factory at Kings Dominion premiered for the 2010 season in the Grove Entrance area, and with the heavy amount of theming and detail put into the maze, it is no wonder that Kings Dominion had a winner on their hands for this past year's Haunt. Here is a review we found on KDFansite.com that talks a bit about the Doll Factory and what it was like.

"I didn't expect much from this maze because I had watched a walk-through of the Knott's one on Youtube, but boy let me tell you, this exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I loved the shelf gag and the outside scene the best. ALL of the female actresses were FANTASTIC in their creepy maniacal way, and of course the finale room rivaled any other finale room I have EVER been through. Fantastic!"

A walk-through of the Doll Factory at Kings Dominion can be found on the Kings Dominon's Youtube Channel. Enjoy! Next up for review: Worlds of Fun and Valleyscare.

2010 New Haunt Reviews: Dorney Park & Knott's

So far, Haunt as been going swimmingly from what I've seen with all of the parks. Let's start out with Dorney Park in Pennsylvania and check out their new Haunt the Mansion House Hotel. So far, we've heard nothing but breathtaking reviews of this brand new Haunt. Here's a clip from FrightTour.com:
"Most likely I see this haunted attraction staying for quite some time as they have put a TREMENDOUS amount of work into it. Most likely I see this haunted attraction staying for quite some time as they have put a TREMENDOUS amount of work into it. This is definitely a must!"

Photo by Rick West at ThemeParkAdventure.com

Knott's Berry Farm in California is home to one of the top Haunt events in the country, and this year, the designers at Knott's have pushed the envelope even further. Starting off with a returning Haunt, Cornstalkers has undergone a MAJOR overhaul, and has seen much improvement.

Moving on to the new mazes and zones, Virus Z, Sleepy Hollow Mountain, Necropolis, and Fallout Shelter have all seen their first guests for the year, and the reviews are consistent that these mazes all made for fantastic additions to their Haunt lineup.

Here are a couple reviews seen on ThemeParkAdventure.com:
Virus Z - "Pure mayhem. Like LockDown, it was chaotic, and frenzied. I felt a sense of panic, in terms of what was going on around me. The talent was fully into it. I loved the whole apocalyptic approach to it. Way, way too short, however. A-"

Fallout Shelter - "Wow! Very cool and again one of the absolute best of the night! To me this maze was really interesting and I was always wanting to see what was next. I loved it! The talent actually was really good in there too. Some cool effects, some cool characters and props, and the sounds were great as well! Loved Fallout Shelter and in the top 3 mazes!"

Necropolis - City of the Dead - "Oh. My. God. This scare zone was AMAZING! Stilts, huge axes, blood fueled machines, crutches made of human arms. Even the costumes were freaking awesome! I do miss The Gauntlet, but WOW! Overall 10 out of 10."

Sleepy Hollow Mountain - "What an improvement. I never really appreciated the Pyromaniax theme, and this is closer to Red Moon Massacre, which I personally love. Sleepy Hollow has some amazing set pieces and talent in it, don't miss it! I didn't even get wet! 8/10"

Sounds like overall, Knott's has some real winners on their hands this year! Up next for 2010 New Haunt Reviews: Canada's Wonderland & Kings Dominion.

Canada's Wonderland: Website Launch/Blood on the Bayou

Photo from UltimateHaunt.com

Canada's Wonderland has released their Haunt Website for the 2010 Halloween Haunt at Canada's Wonderland. New this year? Blood on the Bayou! Here's some information on BOTB from the site:

"Residents along the Louisiana bayou have long been warned not to venture too far from the water’s edge; beyond the opulent river mansions lies a mysterious, twisted world where curses are whispered in the dark and no one ever makes it back to shore. Those who go too far are soon driven mad with fear and bloodlust so be cautious – there’s no telling what you could wake in the Bayou."

Sounds pretty awesome! Kind of funny to have a Louisiana type of themed Haunt in Canada!

On a side note, one maze that is not returning this year is A Mid-Summer Night's Scream. We have no idea why, or what the maze was like last year. Anyone have any input on this?

Worlds of Fun: Cornstalkers Confirmed

Now confirmed on Worlds of Fun's Website Blog, Cornstalkers is officially replacing Camp Gonnagitcha for the 2010 Halloween Haunt at Worlds of Fun. It will take place on the Fury of the Nile Island where Camp Gonnagitcha was.

I often wonder how Haunts work as a chain. Cedar Fair owns a whole lot of parks, and they all go through Haunts in what appears to be 4-5 year cycles depending on the park. I wonder if the parks exchange Haunts, props, themes, etc. For instance, now that Camp Gonnagitcha is gone from WOF, could/will it be used at another park? Who knows!

Canada's Wonderland: Blood on the Bayou

Photo from CWMania.com

Apparently Canada's Wonderland (prior to announcing their website) has released that Blood on the Bayou is their new maze for the 2010 season. Replacing Miner's Revenge, Blood on the Bayou will be located in White Water Canyon. Sounds like it will be what Knott's had back in the day. That maze was known as Blood Bayou. Reincarnation? Doubtful, but we can still look forward to this brand new maze for the 2010 season at Canada's Wonderland!

Knott's: Website Launch

The official Knott's Halloween Haunt website is up! Official descriptions of Necropolis, Virus Z, Fallout Shelter, and Sleepy Hollow can be found! Also a unique feature to the Knott's website is Monstercam; A look into what it's like being a monster in Ghost Town! Take a look, it's VERY entertaining.

Kings Dominion: Website Launch and 4 New Haunts

The Kings Dominion Halloween Haunt website has launched, and there are FOUR new Haunted Attractions coming this fall to their Haunt! The Asylum is replacing Maze of Madness, the Doll Factory is replacing Big Top Terror in 3D, Camp Killauee is replacing Blackbeard's Revenge, and the Ruins is replacing the Voodoo Swamp. 4 replacement Haunts, but 4 new Haunts nonetheless. We can't wait to see how KD puts their spin on all of these classic Cedar Fair Haunt themes!

Dorney Park: Website Launch and Mansion House Hotel

Photo from DorneyOnline.com/Newsplusnotes.com

The Dorney Park Haunt website has launched, and with the removal of the Magical House on Boo Hill, the Mansion House Hotel has moved in. After seeing the blueprints on the Dorney Park Haunt facebook page, this looks like it will be one of the largest Haunted Houses that Cedar Fair has! We're very excited to see how the general public responds to it, and how everyone loves it this fall!

Valleyfair: Website Launch

The Halloween Haunt at Valleyscare website has launched for this year and after looking around it for a while (and double/triple checking), there's nothing new at Valleyscare. How disappointing. Maybe next year?

California's Great America: Website Launch and Black Widow's Cavern

The California's Great America Haunt website has launched with the official lineup of Haunted Mazes, Zones, and Rides for the 2010 season. Detailed in the new website is Black Widow's Cavern, a new Log Runner experience for this year's Haunt. Here's the description:

"Dare to enter the old, abandoned loggers run, now overrun by deadly spiders. Get caught in the web of the horrific arachnids as you travel the trough of terror on the old logger’s path of doom."

Now BWC is not exactly a clone Haunt to the Mine Ride at Knott's, but it is a theme that was produced from over at Knott's. It will be very interesting to see how CGA pulls this theme off with a Log Ride instead of a Mine Ride. How do you all think it will turn out?

Scarowinds: Website Launch and DefeX Inc.

Photo from Scarowinds.com

Scarowinds released their Haunt website yesterday, and boy is it top of the line. Featuring a horrific layout, creepy sound effects, and top of the line graphics, this is one of the best Haunt websites we have seen!

On the website, after looking at the Attractions section, we found the new Haunt DefeX Inc. This looks to be a Toy Factory of some sort, and we have to hand to Scarowinds again for creating such an original name. Glad we aren't seeing another Happy Jack's or "Toy Factory" name thrown into the Cedar Fair chain. We can't wait to see how DefeX Inc. turns out! What do you all think of the new maze?

California's Great America: Log Flume Replacement

While paroozing around on CGA's Twitter Page, we found this tweet that gives us insight on Haunt for this year. Looks like the Log Flume will be rethemed for Haunt, and will give an entirely new experience.

"Are you ready for some Haunt fun? The campers have left Loggers because something has infested the run. All the gory details coming soon!"

Let the speculation begin! We're looking forward to hearing what's going down for Haunt at CGA this year.

Kings Dominion: Worksite & Factory?

Photo from KIExtreme.com

After looking around again on the popular KDFansite website, we ran across two images that serve as previews for the Haunt at Kings Dominion. You can see the photos here. One photo has caution tape all over it, and the other has the infamous doll face that's seen at Cedar Point's Happy Jack's Toy Factory, Knott's' Doll Factory, and CGA's Toy Factory.

Now on the topic of caution tape, from early 2000's through 2008, Kings Island had a scare zone known as the Worksite. This Haunt always looked great to us, and we would love to see it reincarnated. We'll have to wait and see, but it looks like KD is getting at least one new Haunt this year.

Kings Island: Werewolf Maze?

Photo from KIExtreme.com

We've received an anonymous tip from a reader saying that there could be a Werewolf themed maze put in that would replace Tombstone Terrortory which is the park's current train Haunt. To coincide with that rumor, after looking on another Kings Island Fansite, we found not only a rumor regarding a Werewolf themed Maze, but a Doll Factory themed one as well. What's in store for KI's Haunt for the 2010 season? We will have to wait and find out!

Valleyscare: CarnEvil Returning

Photo from Sscoaster.net

While reading ThemeParkReview, a popular Theme Park related website, we came across the lineup for the Halloween Haunt at Valleyscare. No new Haunts for this year, which came as a surprise to us here at CFHN Headquarters. A while ago we had heard a rumor that the popular clown maze was going to be replaced with a new maze. Unless the lineup on ThemeParkReview is incorrect, it looks like nothing is new at Valleyscare this year. Hopefully the Live Entertainment lineup will feature something new. More on Valleyscare later!

Kings Island: Haunt in SoB Station?

Photo from Flickr.com

After checking out a Kings Island fan based website, it sounds like one of the new Haunts could possibly be located in the station of the now closed Son of Beast roller coaster. The coaster has been closed for a while now, and the fate of it is still unsure. Regardless, there were a few folks from maintenance around the station drilling and working on various things. Will we see a Haunt in the station of this closed coaster? We will have to wait and see!

Now that it's nearly August, we should start to see Haunt websites start popping up around the Cedar Fair chain. We will be on top of who announces what, when!

Kings Dominion: Multiple New Haunts?

Finally after a dry spout of nothing new in the Haunt Dept. in the past few weeks, we have received word of new Haunts at Kings Dominion. Although we haven't found what the person is talking about, there is talk of multiple new Haunts premiering this fall at the Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion. Where did we find such information? Well why not see for yourself by checking out KDFansite, a Kings Dominion Fan Website. Hopefully all of the Haunt websites will be released soon so we can finally know what's coming to each park for the 2010 Haunt Season!

California's Great America: No New Maze for 2010?

Photo from ParkThoughts.com

While looking at the ParkThoughts blog recently, we noticed a CGA update in their Trip Reports section. After looking through some great photos, we scrolled down to find this:

"The park has not gone over Halloween Haunt 2010 with it’s employees yet (as of 7.11.10). But this year will NOT bring a new maze. This is debunks the rumor I recieved last year from a park employee who stated that 2009 would be a Doll Factory (ended up being a Toy Factory) and 2010 would bring the Asylum. While there will not be a new maze, there may be a new scare zone."

Could CGA go a year without a new maze? And if there is a Scare Zone added, what could the theme be? Leave your comments down below!

Also, our blog has been running a bit dry lately. Not a whole lot of news in the CF Haunt Industry in these past couple of weeks. If you hear of any news bits, rumors, or signs of construction, let us know!

Worlds of Fun: Construction/Hints for Haunt?

Photo from Flickr.com

A blog post was made on Worlds of Fun's Hot Air Blog recently. It showed some woods that had tape between some trees. Now if we're not mistaken over here at CFHN, those woods are possibly the same ones used for the Camp Gonnagitcha Haunt. The WOF Hot Air Blog is notorious for teasing readers with hints for not only Haunt, but new rides as well. Which one is it? We have no idea.

Back in March we had heard a rumor that a Cornstalkers type of maze would possibly be replacing Camp, so is this a confirmation or hint that Cornstalkers is officially coming to Worlds of Fun? We'll have to wait and see!

Kings Dominion: Under Construction

Photo from KDFansite.com

On the BehindTheThrills Twitter Account, there was a recent tweet that mentioned construction already taking place for some of the mazes at Kings Dominion and their Halloween Haunt. Here's the tweet:

"Was told by entertainment here at #KingsDominion that most of the houses for Halloween haunt already under construction."

Well we already know that construction is in full swing at Knott's, and now we have KD on the list! Who's next? Feel free to drop us a comment if you hear anything about your local park starting on construction for this fall!

Knott's Berry Farm: Virus Z and Sleepy Hallow Mountain

Yesterday, Knott's Berry Farm tweeted about two new attractions at this year's Haunt! Replacing Quarantine will be Virus Z. This maze will be designed by the twisted mind of Brooke Walters who was the mastermind behind Terror of London and the Doll Factory. Here's the description of the maze according to Knotts' Twitter Account.

Fiesta Plaza explodes with a brand new zombie nightmare. The virus is out and the end is near. Enter the barricaded town of Pleasanton where the virus has turned the entire population into ravenous zombies.

Sounds great! Along with Virus Z, Sleepy Hallow Mountain will be replacing Pyromaniax in the Log Ride. This attraction will be designed by David Ortiz, who designed Dia De Los Muertos for the 2009 Haunt. Here's the description from Theme Park Adventure.

Ghosts and ghouls, witches and goblins, long-legged beasts and things that go bump in the night...take a dark ride through haunted Sleepy Hollow. The witching hour is at hand and the legends of long ago haunt the living. Specters and witches are on your heels as you try to out run The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. Can you keep your wits? Or will you lose your head?

Sounds great! Both sound like awesome additions/changes, and we can't wait to check them out this fall!

Knott's Berry Farm: Returning Mazes

Photo from Ocregister.com

Long time no post! Since the last rumor, Knott's Berry Farm has been tweeting away regarding returning mazes pertaining to this year's Haunt. Check out these tweets from their Twitter Account!

-Lockdown is a LOCK to return for Haunt 2010.

-Slaughterhouse returning for Haunt 2010? What do you guys think?

-Dia De Los Muertos - once again, the veil of the dead is raised....enter a forbidden world of ancient lore. Dia returns for 2010.

-Terror of London the awe inspiring maze from 2009 returns for 2010 - These streets are to be treaded lightly...danger lurks all about...

-Ghost Town Streets: the granddaddy of Haunt scare zones is ready to rip it up this Halloween. The legend begins anew....

-Carnevil: the streets come alive with the manic mayhem of the murderous midway monsters!

-Necropolis: The City of the Dead. New for Haunt 2010.

Sounds great! Can't wait to see all the old & new returning to Knott's this Fall. Stay tuned for more news & rumors!

Kings Island: Doll Factory on the Way?

We received an anonymous tip last week saying that a Doll Factory might be added to the park this year for Haunt. Once again, as we have done for other posts, we are going to label this under "Rumor" because it hasn't been confirmed yet.

We wonder how this maze will rack up against the Knott's version of this same theme if this rumor proves to be true. The facade of the Doll Factory at Knott's is cool, but some of the facades at Kings Island have proved to be very interesting and unique. We will have to wait and see.

Cedar Point: Undertaker is Out

Photo from Pointbuzz.com

While browsing over at Pointbuzz, a popular Cedar Point fansite, we noticed that in a 2010 Halloweekends thread that according to someone at the park (and later confirmed with this photo), an Asylum will be added to Halloweekends at Cedar Point for the 2010 season, replacing Undertaker U which is located in the back of the park inside some sort of old Carousel building.
We are very excited to see Cedar Point's twist on this classic Haunt theme!

Worlds of Fun: Terror of London Scare Zone

Photo from Creepyla.com

With the rumor that Worlds of Fun might possibly be adding a Terror of London themed scare zone, that got us thinking. How do you theme a scare zone to Terror of London? Well a viewer asked us that same question and we're going to take a stab in the dark at how we would theme it.

If you take a look at the photo above from Creepyla.com, you'll see the final scene in the Terror of London maze at Knott's from this past 2009 Haunt Season. The last scene depicted a graveyard, some sort of dock, and a LOT of brickwork. Overall, having been through the Terror of London maze, it was an absolutely breathtaking scene. The details all around were fantastic and the scares were top notch.

Now making this into a scare zone, although difficult, is possible. In most scare zones there are objects or set pieces that break up the path so guests have to avoid objects. These objects also provide hiding places for the actors and actresses in the zone. In a Terror of London themed scare zone, we would most likely place some brick walls along the path, along with a lot of tombstones, a couple of eerie London-style streetlamps, as well as maybe a storefront or two (in a facade type of manner). This in our eyes would make for one hell of a zone.

If you could design a scare zone, what would you put in it and what would you theme it to?

Cedar Fair: Factories-A-Plenty

It seems that a reoccurring theme (no pun intended) in the rumors that we have been receiving is that various parks have, or are adding factory themed Haunts this year. All current factory themed Haunts at Cedar Fair parks thus far are indoor mazes, and the rumors we've received about two Cedar Fair parks that might be adding factories of some sort this year (one ex-Paramount park and one original Cedar Fair park) have rumored that they will be indoors as well.

There are numerous types of factories out on the Haunt Market right now, but the two main ones seem to be doll and toy factories. What does everyone think of these factory themes at Cedar Fair Haunts?

Dorney Park: New Haunt Photos

Dorney Park has posted photos of construction going on for their new Haunted Maze entitled: Mansion House Hotel. To check out the photos, head on over to the Haunt's Facebook Page and then click on the photos tab. Looks like this will be one big maze!

It is quite crazy that some parks are already beginning to start the construction process for their Haunts. Not a bad thing at all in our eyes! Can't wait to see how this maze shapes up. When does your local Cedar Fair park start Haunt Construction?

Valleyfair: Clowns Are Out Of Town?

Photo from Haunt World Magazine

After paroozing around various Haunt Facebook Groups, I stumbled upon talk of Valleyfair's Halloween Haunt and how CarnEvil is being replaced for the 2010 season. Couldn't find any word on the theme, so we will label this as a rumor for now, but for 2010, the clowns are no longer in town at Valleyscare.

Knott's Berry Farm: Movie Theater Haunt

While looking around on Monsterspace.org, we noticed that in a certain thread in the Forum, someone discussed that on a Knott's Berry Farm Haunt Designer's Twitter Account, the person posted that they just finished drafting the facade for a Movie Theater Haunt.

Scarowinds happened to have a Movie Theater Haunt last year by the name of Silver Screen Sinema, but unfortunately we haven't heard any reports as to how the Haunt experience actually was. We did, although, find this on ThemeParkReview, a popular Roller Coaster website:

"This is a returning maze, just under a different name. It used to be Dreamfactory. I have always liked this maze and regard it as one of the "classics" here. It has been updated with some pretty cool new special effects including a movie theater where the Scaractors watch you walking through the maze."

We cannot wait to hear about this new Movie Theater Haunt premiering at Knott's this fall! What do you you all think about the theme?

Dorney Park: Important Information on the Way!

Photo from Flickr.com

According to Dorney Park's Facebook page, a new update will be posted soon including photos. We're really looking forward to this update, and we will keep you all updated once the update has been posted on what all happened/is happening!

Meanwhile across the chain, we've heard a couple creepy rumors about this year, specifically at Kings Island in Ohio. Once we can find out a couple more details we'll let you know!

Knott's Berry Farm: Curse of the Spider to be replaced?

Photo from ThemeParkAdventure.com - Rick West

Overlooking some discussion on Monsterspace, a popular Haunt website, it looks like not only Pyromaniax is being rumored to leave the farm for the 2010 season, but someone hinted that the Black Widow's Cavern might be rethemed for 2010 as well. No further details were confirmed or rumored, but it could be interesting to see what all Knott's cranks out theme wise this year for their two Haunt-Rides (if this rumor turns out to be true).

What do you all think about Haunted Attractions/Rides? Are they better or worse than regular walk through attractions? Leave us a comment down below and let us know!

Kings Island: Simple Math

Photo from Flickr.com

Recently, while paroosing the various theme park sites across the web, I encountered Kings Island's new (and rather spiffy I must add) website. On the website, you can find their Park Map and Guide for 2010 which happens to have a Haunt section in it. In this section, it mentions that the Halloween Haunt this year will have "13 Highly-Intense and Thrilling Haunted Attractions".

Now lets take a minute and rewind back to 2009. Last year's Haunt at KI, the park opened up two new Haunted Attractions, one being a replacement for Red Beard's Revenge, the other being the Slaughterhouse which was totally new. With that said, they had 11 haunts total. Now let's use up some brain power & do some insanely simple yet awesome math!

13 - 11 = 2.

How many Haunts will KI receive for 2010? The answer is 2. Simple enough. Looks like Cedar Fair will be cranking out the new Haunts more than ever this year, and boy we can't wait to see the result!

Bueller?

Photo from Flickr.com

There are a select few parks we haven't heard any hints, news, or rumors about as of lately. Those being California's Great America, Carowinds, Valleyfair, Canada's Wonderland and Halloweekends. Nothing new coming for these parks, or are they just keeping new surprises quiet? We'll have to find out!

We'll just do a little background on those parks. California's Great America (CGA) added one new Haunted House last year called the Toy Factory. Sounds cool, but like we've mentioned in previous posts, with other companies and parks in CF doing that theme, we're on the fence about whether we're a fan of the theme. Oh well, it looked fun. Carowinds (Scarowinds rather) added 3 new Haunts last year. One Scare Zone called "The Playground" (cool concept/theme, we have to admit), one Outdoor Haunt called Camp Kilauee, and an Indoor Haunt named Silver Screen Sinema. At Valleyfair (Also known as Valleyscare), there were no new Haunts added, although it appears that a new show from Knott's called Fangs was added. At Canada's Wonderland (CW), two Indoor Mazes were added. The first being Club Blood (Generic CF vampire maze), and the second being a rather odd themed/named Haunt known as A Mid-Summer Night's Scream. Hmm. Not too sure about the theme . . . The last of the 2010 Haunts that we haven't heard from is Halloweekends at Cedar Point. They added two Haunted Mazes last year, one being Happy Jack's Toy Factory which replaced the Pharaoh's Secret maze in Disaster Transport, and the other Indoor Maze that was added was called G.A. Boeckling's Eerie Estate, located in an admissions building of some sort.

Well that just about wraps up the news, or lack of news rather for today. Just remember, if you have anything to submit, feel free to share!

Cedar Fair: Overlord Returning for 2010

Photo from Monsterspace.org

By the looks of various sites across the internet, the Overlord will be implemented even more this year across the various Cedar Fair Haunts. He arose every night from all of the parks across the chain to make a viscous speech telling all of his ghouls, goblins, and demons to reek havoc on all of the innocent souls of that park. We here at CFHN are really excited to see what happens this year across the US with the Overlord! What did you think of the Overlord last season?

Knott's Berry Farm: Pyromaniax Gone for 2010

Photo from Micechat.com

It's been semi-confirmed on the popular Knott's Haunt fansite Theme Park Adventure that Pyromaniax will not be returning for the 2010 season. Pyromaniax was added in 2007 and was located in the Timber Mountain Log Ride. The ride was mainly themed around a fire outbreak at a moonshine factory. It looks like a half-decent Haunt judging by the various Youtube videos of Pyromaniax, but with its removal for the 2010 season, what will replace it? Knott's has had a Log Ride Haunt ever since 1987 with themes such as Santa Claws, Toxic Terror, and Red Moon Massacre. Will the Log Ride return with a brand new theme this year or will this be the first year where it isn't utilized for a Haunt? Only time will tell!

Knott's Berry Farm: Fallout Shelter

According to the Knott's Haunt Fansite Theme Park Adventure (and everyone else who went to the West Coast Bash Event at Six Flags Magic Mountain & Knott's), Knott's announced today that they are adding Fallout Shelter - Toxic Terrors Abound. Taking place of Alien Annihilation, this maze will be themed to a toxic, bio hazardous fallout shelter. Also reported by TPA, this maze will feature water gags.

We think this maze sounds great! We're really digging the theme. Can't wait for Knott's Twitter's Haunt Goodness coming later this year! What do you think of this new maze?

Various themes have been adopted by not just Cedar Fair parks, but through out Haunts all around the World. Last year, Cedar Fair added a total of 24 (we're not 100% certain, but that's the approximate number) new Haunts. Here's the official list:
-G.A. Boeckling's Eerie Estate
-Happy Jack's Toy Factory
-Asylum
-3-D Psycho Circus
-Backwoods
-Death Trap
-Gauntlet
-Pirates Passage
-Medieval Macabre
-Slaughter House
-Lockdown: The Asylum
-Terror of London
-Dia De Los Muertos in 3D
-Uncle Bobo's Big Top of the Bizarre in 3D
-Club Blood
-A Midsummer Night's Scream
-Toy Factory
-Club Blood
-Slaughter House
-Cut Throat Cove
-Camp Killauee
-Silver Screen Sinema
-The Playground

Overall, that's a fairly large amount of Haunts added. There are a few themes that stand out to us as horrifying and extremely innovative. The Playground Scare Zone at Carowinds sounded like a creepy and innovative theme, and with how many different large objects you can find at a playground, I'm sure there were plenty of walkway objects to hide behind & walk around. Another great one in our eyes is the Midsummer Night's Scream Haunted Maze at Canada's Wonderland. We have no idea how it delivered or if it was even scary, but we love the concept! Death Trap at Dorney Park brought in the whole "SAW" type of theme and put a CF twist on it. With that sick kinda twisted concept, what Haunt fanatic wouldn't want to walk through it!

There were a few medieval theme Haunts across the chain. Knott's already had the Gauntlet Scare Zone, but on top of that, Kings Dominion added a Medieval Macabre Haunted Maze, and Dorney Park put its own twist on the Gauntlet Scare Zone. There was a presence of Toy Factory mazes not only across the Cedar Fair chain, but across the Haunt Industry. Busch Gardens in Tampa (Howl-O-Scream Event) added a Toy Factory to their lineup. Total, Cedar Fair added 2 Toy Factory's across the chain. Happy Jack's Toy Factory at Cedar Point & the Toy Factory at California's Great America. After watching walk-throughs of both Haunts on Youtube, we here at CFHauntNews think that these Toy Factory Haunts aren't only twisted, but extremely detailed and overall VERY well done.

What themes do you all think will be thrown into the variety of Haunts this Fall when the Cedar Fair Halloween Haunts (and Halloweekends) premier? Leave us a comment below about what you think!

Car Ride Haunts

Photo from OhioThemeParks

Back in 2003, Kings Island in Ohio added a Haunted Attraction called Route 666, a car ride Haunt that let guests drive through various scenes. According to a couple different sites that we've looked at the waits got fairly long for this attraction, leading up to 3+ hour lines. Route 666 didn't return after the 2003 due to the removal of the autos ride and the addition of the Italian Job ride.

Another car ride that took place at a Haunt was called Scary Oldies at Geauga Lake. According to a few reviews it was one of the scariest attractions at the park. The other one that is currently (as of last year) in existence is called Blue Ridge Bloodbath and is located at Kings Dominion in Virginia.

These types of car ride Haunts feature various scenes and distractions. We personally think that these kinds of Haunts are great & we can't wait to see if Cedar Fair starts to use more of their attractions during the Halloween Haunt events in the Fall.

Kings Island: Trains and Trails

Photo from Kicentral.com
This is just throwing thoughts out here, we haven't heard anything from anyone, but I think it's time to focus on Kings Island in Ohio. Now we're labeling this as a rumor only because it's simple logic (same case as the previous post regarding Quarantine at Knotts), but we have a couple guesses or predictions about future Haunts for KI, mainly regarding Tombstone Terrortory and Trail of Terror.
Now Tombstone Terrortory (Train Haunt) was added in 2005, originally named Headless Hallow during Fear Fest. Trail of Terror was added back in 2001, and from 2003 through the Paramount acquisition was named Psycho Path, post Paramount known as Trail of Terror.

For the third time this is pure guessing, nothing reported or even rumored, but could some of the outdoor Haunts at KI be due for some change? With camp haunts being added to Haunt lineups similar to how last year Backwoods was added to Dorney Park, could Trail of Terror be replaced with some sort of Camp Haunt? Who knows.

Cedar Fair (as of last year) isn't too big on Train Haunts, seeing as if we remember right, Tombstone Terrortory was the only one (Seeing as Calico at Knotts is more of a Mine Ride), could we see the possible demise of Train Haunts? Or will they become the new rage and could we see train rides at the various Cedar Fair parks across the country be used as Haunts in the future? Only time will tell.

Knott's Berry Farm: Quarantine to be Quarantined for 2010?

According to fellow Haunt lover KnottsScaryFarmRuler on Youtube, Quarantine isn't going to be returning to the Knott's Haunt Lineup for the 2010 event. The logic behind this rumor? Well, the Grudge 2 only stayed for 2 years, and the only way that it would be able to stay is if they renamed it or diverted the name/theme away from the movie. Yes, Quarantine was a half-decent movie, but we don't think that that means that it deserves a place in the Knott's lineup 3 years AFTER the release of the movie.

Will Quarantine return this year, or is KSFRuler right & will it be replaced for the 2010 season. And if it is replaced, what will it be replaced with?

Uh oh!

While reading comments from this blog and brushing up on Haunt news and information , we came across a post on Dorney Park's Facebook regarding a previous post and how it "Upset the overlord". Just to clarify (and so we don't get in trouble), we aren't trying to really upset anyone and as of now, all posts on this site are labeled as RUMORS and won't be labeled as confirmed until . . . well until the Haunts are listed as each site.

We here at CFHauntNews are trying to provide the latest news and rumors for those who follow the Haunt industry as well as Cedar Fair parks. Our intent isn't to release information before it has been announced, it's just to pass along cool little information bits that draw interest to those who follow the Haunt industry like we do!

With all of that said, we come in peace & with all the political and legal mumbojumbo stuff that's going on these days, we really don't want to cause any trouble. If there's inaccurate information found on this site that you would like removed or at least altered, FEEL FREE to contact us via the comment box/link below! Even if it's a comment saying "Get that piece off of libelous slander off of your site immediately!", we respect our viewers and will most likely comply with our readers demands. Sorry for any trouble caused!

Knott's Berry Farm: Necropolis - City of the Dead

Knott's announced once again via Twitter that the Gauntlet is being replaced with Necropolis - City of the Dead this Fall at the Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt. Pictured above, this new Scare Zone will feature "Steampunk Vampires" in a city (Necropolis) of bloodthirsty vampires that can't wait to harvest upon your soul(s).

Mentioned in the previous Knott's post, many fans, employees, and followers of the Haunt (Knott's in particular) are upset about this change, and aren't quite ready to welcome in the Necropolis. How do you think this city will deliver? Will it be an outstanding replacement for the Gauntlet, or will it fail miserably and forever be known as "that one scare zone with a bunch of Edward Cullen mechanical mixups running around"? We'll have to wait & see!

Dorney Park: Feary Tales for 2010?

Photo from Themeparkadventure.com

In a fearful new rumor, word has it that Dorney Park is going to add a Feary Tales themed Scare Zone. We're not entirely sure about any other details, like whether it'll be named Feary Tales or whether it'll just be themed to that, but if said rumor becomes true, it would be really spooky to see!

Knott's Scary Farm put on a great Haunt entitled "Feary Tales" back in the day, and by back in the day, I'm referring to 2005-2007. Here at CFHN Headquarters are still trying to think up how a Feary Tales theme could be fit into a Scare Zone. Any ideas? Send 'em in using the comment button/link below!

Kings Dominion: KCC Transformation?

Photo from Flickr.com

A rumor has been posted over at Kdfansite about their 2010 Halloween Haunt. There's not much to this proposed Haunt location, but what employees have been hearing is that the Kidz Construction Company (pictured above) is set to become a Haunted maze for the 2010 season. We don't know anything else about this rumor or location, so once we hear or receive more info, we'll pass it on!

Worlds of Fun: Replacement Haunts

Photo from CoasterCommunity.com

It has been hinted on a few different coaster sites across the internet that a couple Haunts at WOF are going to be replaced, those two haunts being Camp GonnaGitcha (added in 2004) and Dominion of Doom (added in 2005). Although word on what they will be replaced with isn't quite clear, what we're hearing is a farm themed outdoor walkthrough replacement (similar to a Cornstalkers style Haunt) for Camp, and a Terror of London themed Scare Zone (similar to Knott's Scary Farms' Terror of London in 09 which was a Maze) for Dominion of Doom.

It should be interesting to hear how the farm Haunt is. With the woods playing a major factor in the location of the maze, it could have a really crazy atmosphere! Can't wait to hear reviews.

Knott's Berry Farm: Goodbye to the Gauntlet?

Photo from Flickr.com

Knott's Berry Farm happens to be one of the few Cedar Fair parks that is overly active with their Twitter account. Releasing details one tweet at a time, it was announced last month that the famous Scare Zone known as the Gauntlet (CS Streets) is going to be replaced with a gothic steampunk themed Scare Zone.

Many fans and CS Streets Employees were upset with the news and due to media portrayals of Vampires in recent years (Twilight mainly), there was a widespread panic including the all so common fear of having sparkly, unscary vampires roaming the streets of the Halloween Haunt at Knott's Scary Farm.

Will the new scare zone deliver and put on a good enough performance to outdo the Gauntlet?

Dorney Park: Hotel Haunt?

Revealed on February 18th, this blueprint sketch shows an absolutely ENORMOUS Haunt planned for Dorney Park. After closer examination, the folks over at Dorney Park Online have discovered that this Haunt seems to be themed to a hotel. A bit of information was posted by someone on Facebook regarding the location:
"It looks like the entrance is going to face the groves, there's a concrete path which goes down the hill to the other groves between the two upper groves to be used for this new indoor haunt."

For now, since nothing has been announced by the park, this will be labeled as a Rumor.
This will be the first Hotel themed Haunt in the Cedar Fair chain? How do you think it will be executed?
